Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
Between the skin and muscle layer there is connective tissue called fascia. Fascia helps to stabilize muscle and other internal structures. Normal healthy fascia allows the muscle and skin or other structures to glide past each other with ease. When an injury occurs from overuse, slip and fall or any other form of injury, the fascia may become irregular and bunch up and overlap. This becomes a fascial adhesion which limits movement and decreases the nice glide we are supposed to have. Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization uses a beveled instrument and an emollient to help detect and loosed fascial adhesions which helps regain mobility and range of motion.
